The After-Effects of Abortion - Post-Abortion Syndrome (PAS)

Post-Abortion Syndrome can reveal itself in obvious or subtle ways. Its symptoms may not appear until months or years after your abortion. The following is a sample list of PAS symptoms:

Flashbacks

Shame and Guilt

Aggressive Behavior

Related Nightmares or Dreams

Interrupted Sleep

Self-Destructive Behaviors

Repeated Abortions

Anxiety Attacks

Numbing of Emotions

Outbursts of Anger or Rage

Drug and/or Alcohol Abuse

And opening His mouth He began to teach them, saying,
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:2, 4

Jesus spoke these words, as He taught The Sermon on the Mount. He taught His followers “The Beatitudes.” The beatitudes are the character qualities Jesus desires in His followers. Though there are nine character qualities (beatitudes), today you will study one quality in particular - choosing to mourn.

Jesus said, “Blessed are those who mourn.” Jesus teaches that those who mourn will develop a quality of character He desires among His followers. The context for the word mourn, as Jesus used it in this specific Scripture, implies the meaning of sorrowing or grieving for a person’s death. It is right before God to feel pain, to grieve and to wail for someone who has died. Jesus promises that you shall be comforted and blessed.

God desires to make you holy, joyful, blissful and beatified as you are comforted by Him. Jesus affirms His promise through the words “shall be comforted.” It is His promise to you.

Sexual Abuse - Post Traumatic Stress Symptoms

Numbing of emotions - may feel like you are refusing to have emotion
Emotion is replaced by fake more acceptible ones - like wearing a mask
Compartmentalized behavior and/or lifestyles - good girl verses very promiscuous girl
Control - the need to control all relationships - never to be over-powered again and left helpless
Lack of trust in any relationship
Sexual promiscuity
Sexual dysfunction - very sexual or apathetic
Self-esteem - feelings of worthlessness - feeling inadequate- never good enough - something must be wrong with me to make this happen, to cause God not to help me, care for me or see me
Self-blame - I should have done something or told someone
Desire to be invisible while at the same time needing to perform; be good enough in order to feel validated
Anger - the anger is out of proportion for the circumstance
Shame
Depression
Anxiety
Substance abuse
Nightmares
Fear - sometimes unreasonable, unfounded, morbid
Self-destructive behavior
Insomnia
Deliberate sleep deprivation
Over or under achiever
Suicidal
Suicidal thoughts, not necessarily planning a way to carry out suicide, just wishing to die

Vision Statement

SistersIn Christ, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non profit Christian ministry that provides healing, freedom and hope in Christ for women, men and teens who have had an abortion(s) and have experienced sexual abuse.

Mission Statement

Healing, freedom and hope in Christ are offered to women, men and teens through our Bible Study, A Journey to Grace. We believe all Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness(2 Timothy 3:16). We recognize that through Jesus Christ there is salvation. We share and teach that Jesus Christ is the way for healing, freedom, and hope.

Statement of Faith

1.We believe; In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth Genesis 1:1 All things came into being by Him , and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. John 1:3

2. We believe; All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching,for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:16,17

3. We believe; ...the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee, called Nazareth to a virgin...and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel said to her...you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. Luke 1:26,27,30,31

4.We believe; For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

5. We believe; ...all [men] have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 for the wages of sin is death,but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 6:23

6. We believe; For by grace you [a man] have been saved through faith; and the not of yourselves, it is the gift of God,not as a result of works, that no one should boast. Ephesians 2:8,9

7.We believe; ...that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. I Corinthians 15:3b-4

8. We believe; that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead , you shall be saved.Romans 10:9

9. We believe in the Great Commission; Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, ...teaching them to observe all that I command you...Matthew 28:19,20 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all nations...Luke 24:47

10. We believe that God exists in three persons; ...in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19

11.We believe; ...you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37,38,39

Sherry and Glory

In the book of Luke, chapter 7, the Bible describes a woman who had many immoral sins. Jesus knew people judged and avoided her. The incredible truth about Jesus is that He loved this woman. When she came to Him in faith, Jesus said to her, “Your sins have been forgiven…your faith has saved you; go in peace."

The founders of Sisters In Christ understand and can relate to this story. We are women who have experienced feelings of guilt, shame and wounds from our abortions. Like the immoral woman in the Bible, we went to Jesus in faith. In His love, He forgave us too. During a Bible Study for post abortive women, God’s word healed us. We have gained new lives full of freedom, peace and absolute joy!

Around the world, there are millions of post abortive women. Many of them recognize the after effects of their abortions while many do not. Sisters In Christ was created to reach out to all of these women by telling the truth about our own personal post abortion experiences, its devastating effects in our lives and our healing experiences.

As we reached out to help, God revealed that many women have a great need for healing from sexual abuse. A life after sexual abuse is often littered with trauma and self-destructive behavior. Through prayer, we realized that our Bible Study, A Journey to Grace is able to offer hope, healing and freedom from sexual abuse.

We ask everyone to share the love of Christ with women who are hurting and let them know that we are here to help them heal. We thank you for reading this message, and we look forward to serving you and others through this amazing journey to freedom in Christ!

Welcome to Sisters In Christ’s Bible Study, “A Journey To Grace”. We will be your guides, your teachers, and your friends, leading you in the truth of God’s Word. We pray you will open your hearts and allow God to touch and heal the wounds of your post-abortion or sexual abuse experience (s). As we share our journey together, we will pray for you. God is faithful, and He has special plans for you. Like abundant waves that roll onto the ocean’s shore, He wants to give you an abundant life in Him.

Each week God wants to meet you at His Table of Mercy and let you discover the riches of His Grace through His Son, Jesus. We, at Sisters In Christ, have been through this journey to grace before. Through it all, we will be able to encourage you, help you and relate to you.

As you read our stories, we hope you can start looking at some of your emotions and feelings before and after your own abortion or sexaul abuse experience (s).
